Adobe Flash looks great, right? Many people all over the world use it and we’ve noticed it being used more and more in website design Cardiff and web design Wales, in particular. However, you should be very sparing with Flash when it comes to your SEO considerations.
Although Flash has many great uses, there is one simple problem – search engines can’t read Flash. If your entire website is built in Flash, it will be extremely difficult for Google or any other search engine to accurately determine the content of your website. You should never place the main body of your content within Flash – instead, only use it for items which really require it, such as interactive features.
You should take great care when using Flash for menus, too, as Google can’t follow Flash links. If you simply must use a Flash menu, make sure you offer an HTML alternative, too. Many effects for text and menus can be achieved using CSS so always ensure there is no SEO friendly alternative before resorting to using Flash on your website.
Flash isn’t an inherently bad thing to use on your website but the SEO considerations and impacts are enormous so you really need to sit down and have a good think about why you want Flash used and what the purpose of it will be. As previously mentioned, there are many SEO friendly alternatives so make sure you explore these before heading for Flash – especially if search engine optimisation is going to be one of your main concerns.
