1. Meta tags
Many people still stuff keywords into their meta tags thinking that this will help their SEO UK efforts. It won’t! Put simply, all this will do is ensure that Google penalises your website. Only include words and terms which actually appear within the body text on that page or you will be running the risk of having a penalty applied to your website from Google.
2. Duplicate content
All content on your website should be absolutely unique and not duplicated anywhere else โ even if it is your own content. Google insists on only having content appear once in its search results so make sure you’re not including any content which appears anywhere else on the internet. If you need to include it, either cite the original source or re-write the text again.
3. Linking to bad websites
Only link to high quality websites which you actually want your visitors to check out. Don’t link to bad neighbourhoods or any websites which use dodgy SEO methods or are linked with other unsavoury sorts of websites. Google looks at who you link to and uses this as a measure of what sort of websites you are endorsing. If you don’t endorse it, don’t link to it!
4. Impatience
Search engine optimisation in Cardiff is a long-term strategy and you cannot afford to be impatient with it. Your efforts will eventually pay off if you are doing things properly so sit tight and wait for Google to react. You can’t expect to make a change to your website and for it to be reflected immediately โ some changes take weeks or months to reflect properly in the search results.
5. Keyword stuffing
Don’t simply mention your keywords wherever you can โ use them sparingly. Google gives much higher weighting to content which reads and flows naturally and doesn’t simply spam their index with text filled with keywords such as ‘web design Wales‘ and SEO UK. Remember that your website is intended for users first and search engines second. Look after your content!
